Why We Offer Gluten Free Food

My goal has always been to create great tasting, convenient meals that are healthy enough to eat every night of the week. With this in mind, we choose quality ingredients to create our meals and prepare them with low-fat cooking methods. In the past few years we have received an increasing number of requests from customers avoiding common allergens [dairy, peanuts, tree nuts, eggs, soy, gluten (wheat, rye & barley), seafood and shellfish]. Reaction to these allergens can be as minor as a mildly upset stomach to anaphylactic shock.

Dealing with food allergies is time-consuming, expensive and generally frustrating because choices may be very limited and eating out can be difficult and often dangerous. An ingredient receiving lots of attention recently is gluten. Studies indicate that as many as one in three Americans have some level of gluten intolerance. Gluten negatively affects many people in a variety of ways from those suffering from Celiac Disease, autoimmune disorders, autism and IBS to name just a few.

Although many of our dishes are naturally gluten free, Savory Moment has not focused on these foods until this year. Because it is important to handle ingredients properly when cooking gluten free; our staff has received training and certification through the NFCA (National Foundation for Celiac Awareness) to create a safe environment to produce these gluten free meals.

Extensive research and product testing as well as affiliation with local and national gluten free organizations give Savory Moment the ability to tailor our recipes to service these customers’ needs without compromising taste and quality. We accomplish this by either choosing recipes that are naturally gluten free or by substituting ingredients such as low sodium wheat free Tamari for our soy sauce and a combination of sweet rice flour or tapioca flour to thicken our sauces. For dishes containing pasta we offer both wheat and gluten free versions of the meal.

In addition to our own great tasting recipes; we offer a variety of the best bakery goods, snack foods, baking mixes, pasta and other items available to complement our meals.
